Travel to Spain in 2022
Travel to Spain for US Citizens and Residents
To enter Spain as a US citizen or resident you need a health control form and a vaccination certificate showing your last vaccine no more than 270 days before entry.
Note that entry requirements can change. Be sure to check the two websites listed below before you travel.
The good news is that over 90% of people in Spain 12 and over are fully vaccinated.
For detailed information on the requirements for entry see the Spain Health Travel site and the US Embassy site.
There is a new requirement for travel to Spain in 2022. Starting February 1, 2022, travelers to Spain will need 14 days from the last dose and no more than 270 days since the administration of the last dose. If your last dose was more than 270 days before travel to Spain your vaccination certificate must show that you received a booster dose.
Health Control Form
All persons entering Spain from other countries, including international transits, regardless of their nationality, age or any other consideration, must complete the Health Control Form and obtain their QR to present at boarding and health controls on arrival in Spain. Obtain the Health Control Form here.
Vaccine Certificate
If you are traveling from a territory included in the list of risk countries/areas (the US is on this list) you will need a vaccination certificate. The vaccination certificate must have been issued by the competent authorities of the country of origin at least 14 days after the date of administration of the final dose of the complete (first) course of vaccination, as long as the final dose of that course of vaccination was no more than 270 days ago. From that time, the certificate must show the administration of a booster vaccination (from 1 February 2022).
The vaccination certificate must include:
– Full name of the holder.
– Vaccination date.
– Type of vaccine administered.
– Number of doses administered/completed course.
– Issuing country.
– Identification of the organization issuing the vaccination certificate.
The certificates must be in Spanish, English, French, or German. If they are in another language, they must be translated into Spanish by an official body.
In-country Restrictions
Restrictions in Spain vary from region to region, and are subject to change. Make sure and check the Spain Travel Health site and the US Embassy in Spain site. Both are linked at the top of the page.
The most common restrictions in Spain include:
A mask covering your mouth and nose is required both indoors and outdoors in public spaces.
Limited capacity in religious facilities, funeral homes, shops, restaurants, and bars.
Requirement to show the EU Digital COVID certificate (or vaccination certificate utilized to enter Spain for visitors) to enter bars, restaurants, and other public venues.
Travel From Other Countries to Spain
For citizens of other countries–not the US– traveling to Spain check the Spain Health Travel site. Note that the above travel restrictions do not apply to Canadians.
