Spain and Portugal Travel Restrictions
We couldn’t be happier to announce the easing of (some) travel restrictions for Spain and Portugal and of in-country inconveniences such as vaccination certificates and negative test results to access restaurants, bars, hotels and other public places. To enter Spain or Portugal travelers must be vaccinated with a booster if their vaccine was more than 270 days before arrival and present a negative test result. But we’re closer to normal than we’ve been in two years. That’s something to celebrate!
Travel to Spain
Requirements for traveling to Spain from the U.S. have remained largely the same these past months. In order to enter Spain you must have the following three documents:
The completed Spain Health Control form. You must complete and sign it online before your trip to Spain. You may access the form and sign it through Spain Travel Health.
A negative COVID-19 test result. NAAT (PCR, LAMP, TMA or equivalent) test types are accepted in Spain. You must show a negative result of a NAAT test taken within 72 hours OR an antigen test taken within 24 hours prior to your arrival.
A vaccination certificate. Accepted vaccines: Pfizer-Biontech, Moderna, Astra-Zeneca, Jansen / Johnson & Johnson, Sinovac and Sinopharm. Your last dose must have been at least 14 days prior to entry and no more than 270 days since the administration of your last dose. If more than 270 have passed since your complete vaccination (single dose in the case of one dose regimens and second dose in the case of the two dose regimens) your vaccination certificate must show that you have received a booster shot.
Health Measures in Spain
People over six years old must wear face masks inside in public spaces such as restaurants, cafés, theaters, museums, stores, etc. Masks are also mandatory on public transportation–trains, planes, buses–as well in private passenger vehicles (up to nine seats) if the occupants do not live in the same place. Masks are no longer mandatory outside.
Travel to Portugal
Travel restrictions to Portugal eased in late February. In order to fly into Portugal non-EU travelers will need to show the following:
A negative test result. It must be a RT-PCR test (TAAN), performed in the last 72 hours, or a rapid antigen test (TRAg), performed in the last 24 hours.
A vaccination certificate showing your completed vaccination regimen within the last nine months (270 days). Those who have been vaccinated more than nine months ago need to receive an additional vaccine dose (booster) in order to enter Portugal.
Health Measures in Portugal
Portugal no longer requires visitors to present vaccine certificates or negative test results to enter public places such as restaurants, hotels, bars, museums, etc. Masks outdoors are optional. Indoors masks are still required. The Portuguese government plans to lift all of the remaining restrictions by mid-March.
