Across the region, winemakers are reviving indigenous grapes and forgotten terroirs. In Terra Alta, fragrant white Garnachas shine, while in Cava country, the native Xarel·lo grape is redefining what white wine can be. Meanwhile, Garnachas and Cariñenas thrive not only in Priorat but also in Montsant’s inventive cellars, the monastic vineyards of Conca de Barberà, and the windswept foothills of Empordà, near the Pyrenees.
For this tasting, you will find yourself in a private Barcelona wine shop with an expert sommelier who has spent years exploring Catalonia’s bodegas and vineyards, selecting producers who focus on quality, regional identity, and local grape varieties. Rather than focusing only on well-known regions like Priorat and Penedès, this experience introduces a broad range of wines that reflect the contemporary state of Catalan winemaking. You’ll try wines that you’re unlikely to find, and are little known, outside of Catalonia.
The experience can be tailored entirely to your tastes. Your tasting might include Garnachas and Cariñenas from Priorat or Montsant, sparkling cavas from the Penedès, mineral-driven Garnacha Blancas from Terra Alta or Xarel·los, best known in cava blends, but increasingly bottled on their own by innovative producers. You could even try rare Trepat reds from Conca de Barberà or fresh coastal styles from the Alt Empordà near the Pyrenees. You have the option of adding tapas to pair with the wines, which may be a curated selection of Catalan cheeses or hand-sliced Iberian ham.
