World's 50 Best Restaurants 2017
The annual World's 50 Best Restaurants awards happened this morning in Melbourne, Australia. One surprise was Eleven Madison Park in NYC is now rated the best restaurant in the world for 2017. Last year Osteria Francescana in Modena (Italy) was #1; the year before Celler de Can Roca in Girona, Spain, was #1.
There are now six Spanish restaurants on the top 50 list, and four more on the 51 to 100 list this year. The restaurants on the World's 50 Best list are El Celler de Can Roca (#3), Asador Etxebarri (#6), Mugaritz (#9), Tickets (#25), Arzak (#30), and Azurmendi (#38).
Surprise 2017 Restaurants
Asador Etxebarri in the Basque Country near Bilbao rose from #10 to #6.
Disfrutar–the Barcelona restaurant opened in 2014 by the chefs of Compartir in Cadaqués (and former El Bulli cooks) rose from not being on the list of the top 100 restaurants in 2016 to #55 in 2017. Disfrutar also won the One to Watch Award.
