Picasso's Guernica is found in the Reina Sofía Museum. Picasso stipulated that the painting not be allowed in Spain until democracy was restored.

Madrid is a melting pot og Spanish cultures and cuisines. Food from every corner of the Iberian Peninsula is readily available in the tapas bars and restaurants.


Day 1 – Private Madrid Walking Tour. Visit the landmark streets and plazas of 16th- and 17th-century Madrid, including the Plaza Mayor and the neighborhoods surrounding it. Lunch at a traditional restaurant. Classical Spain Shopping Tour. Shopping for the best of Spain. For those who have too little time to find those special Madrid shops but want to enjoy expert guidance when sourcing the best of Spain; ceramics from Talavera de la Reina, Valencia and Seville, locally designed and made leather goods, the best porcelain and merino wool scarves and blankets. 

Day 2 – Prado Museum & Reina Sofía Museum Tour. A private tour of the two museums with an art specialist. Whether you are art historians or a family with children, the visits will be customized for your group. Dinner at one of our favorite Madrid restaurants.

Day 3 –Madrid Markets Tour. Visit two authentic Madrid markets. Learn about the amazing charcuterie, fresh seafood, produce, and spices such as saffron and paprika in the Spanish pantry. After working up an appetite, head to one of the famous "eating markets" such as the Mercado de San Miguel or the Mercado de San Antón to sample a selection of small plates with wine. Afternoon visit to the Thyssen Museum on your own. Flamenco show in the evening. 

Optional Day 4 - Toledo Day Trip. Discover the mix of Jewish, Moorish and Christian cultures that made Toledo a center of medieval intellectual culture. Walk the medieval streets of Toledo and visit its famous cathedral, churches, and synagogue. Lunch included in one of Spain's best restaurants where you will learn to make pisto manchego or perdiz en escabeche, traditional dishes in Toledo and La Mancha.
