The Longest Turrón in the World
November 14, 2009
The Turrón Regulatory Council of Jijona and Alicante (Consejo Regulador de Turrón de Jijona y de Alicante) has broken their own Guinness Record with a barra de turrón measuring 40 meters in length and weighing 300 kilos. The winning piece was turrón de Jijona, the soft kind. The recipe consisted of 71% toasted Marcona almonds, 18% honey and 11% sugar. Turrón is traditionally eated during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, a lovely practice. You can find turrón at the Spanish foods specialists here in the US. Our favorite source is La Tienda.
