Peace Frogs Travel/Outfitters, Speak Language Center (formerly Ecco Italy/Spain On Main) Epicurean Ways and the Market Street Wine Shop will host a Spanish and Italian wine and olive oil tasting on March 12 featuring presentations on culinary travel in Spain and language travel in Italy in 2009. Find out how you can experience Spain and Italy this year while learning the language and spending time exploring the fabulous food and wine of the two top culinary destinations in the Mediterranean.
Tasting & Talking Your Way Through Spain & Italy will take place March 12, from 6:30 to 8:30 at Peace Frogs Travel/Outfitters in the Barracks Road Shopping Center, Charlottesville.
A Spanish and Italian wine tasting will be guided by Robert Harllee of the Market Street Wine Shop. A Spanish olive oil tasting session led by Jane Gregg of Epicurean Ways will acquaint you with freshly pressed extra virgin olive oils from Spain.
Speak! Language Center (formerly Ecco Italy) is a full-service language center in Charlottesville offering courses in Italian, French and Spanish for personal and professional enrichment. Owner Christina Ball also leads two week Italian language and culture trips to a hill town in Umbria each year ("Two Weeks in Todi"), where participants can soak up the language, food and wine, affordably. Ball - together with Robert Harllee, who accompanied Ball to Todi in 2008) - will discuss highlights of the program and details of the 2009 trip, slated for June 20-July 4.
Epicurean Ways offers food and wine tours throughout Spain. Trips for 2009 include wine tours in the Rioja wine region, cooking vacations with professional chefs in Catalonia, and foodie explorations of Barcelona, Madrid and Sevilla. Participants will explore traditional Spanish cuisine with visits to small artisanal producers of olive oil, goat cheese, Spanish ham and saffron.
