Spanish Chefs Who Have Hotels With Their Restaurants
March 14, 2010
It’s a lovely idea. Hotel properties attached to Spanish restaurants worth traveling to. Ferrán Adrià has one. So does Michelin starred Santi Santamaría. And Fina Puigdevall of Les Cols in Olot (Catalunya). The hotels are often luxury properties as in the case of Adrià’s Hotel Hacienda Benazuza near Sevilla and Santamaría’s Valdepalcios Hotel Gourmand near Madrid. But there is one hotel mentioned in a recent New York Times article that takes a decidedly different approach. Despite the restaurant’s Michelin star, chef Pere Arpa of Ca l’Arpa (formerly El Rebost d’en Pere) opened an eight-room hotel above the 25-seat restaurant. Best of all… Arpa and his wife live on the top floor of the building housing rooms and restaurant, and the two of them run the hotel. So you can interact with your chef not only around the dinner table but over breakfast or an afternoon tapa as well. Read on for inspiring Spanish restaurant-hotel portraits.
